Israel in Egypt (HWV 54),  is an Oratorio composed by G.F. Haendel in 1738 with a libretto probably from Charles Jennens, who compiled biblical textes for Haendel's Messiah. "italian style" Arias were added by Haendel at a later stage , but after his death, it was stripped from these additions, the powerful choruses and the dark, epic description of the Exodus of the Israelites,  (Exodus and psalms 78,105 and 106) t unque among Haendel's Oratorios.
